There are two types of people: people who love driving and people who are on the verge of a breakdown every time a truck is behind them. The driving experience is a roller coaster of emotions: fear, frustration, excitement, and, most of all, freedom. Getting your driver's license when you are young is your golden ticket to being a step closer to freedom. You stop depending on your parents' ability to transport you anywhere you need to go; plans become more spontaneous, car rides become karaoke sessions with your besties, and crying sessions are unlocked. Your car becomes a sacred place where you can scream, shout, cry, and sing awfully badly; life is good.
The thing about driving is, there is only so much you can control. A lot of the fear that comes with driving most of the time is not even about what you might do; it is about what others might do. What if a careless car crushes me? Or what if a dog randomly crosses the highway? Well, yes, all of these things can happen to you, but as a former driver, I am here to tell you that as long as your eyes are on the road, you will most likely be just fine. Driving is like a sport; it takes practice and patience. At first, you might be going through the slowest highway lane, with no music on, eyes open like an eagle, and then you will start feeling more comfortable putting some music on, maybe even moving to the middle lane. You won't have a crisis every time a motorcycle passes so close to your car; driving will actually become enjoyable.
There are also a few universal experiences that all drivers go through that I find particularly hilarious: being aggressively honked at by another car and then experiencing the most awkward 3 minutes of your life locking eyes with them at the red light, or almost causing a huge chain car accident because the passenger princess of your bestie forgot to say ''Turn left' 5 minutes ago. Or arriving at your destination and thinking to yourself, 'Wait, how did I actually get here?' only to realize you dissociated the whole car ride. These things are part of the universal driving experience, so don't feel bad,; you are doing great! Enjoy these driving memes, and if you don't drive and are a passenger princess, don't forget to look at the map.
