Regular relationships are already tricky enough; communication can be hard, and merging your life with someone else's is a challenge by itself. Now imagine navigating a relationship while being separated by thousands of miles. It takes serious commitment and trust to be in a relationship with someone you don't get to see as often. And although long-distance relationships face many hardships, I think they are real proof of unconditional and selfless love. Love can be selfish and unkind. Love can be possessive and tumultuous. But long-distance relationships are the definition of patience and trust. What do you mean you love someone so much you bear to live your life without their hugs by your side, but still choose to remain together every day? That is so beautiful to me. And not to demonize regular relationships, but all my admiration goes to long-distance couples who make it work. That could never be me, but you are doing great, guys!

Okay, so I have never been in a long-term long-distance relationship, but… I think my quarantine situationships have taught me enough about long-distance relationships. Best believe, all-night FaceTime calls were made, movies were watched in sync, Pinterest boards were sent, and a bucket list with activities to do when visiting each other was made. I think there is something quite beautiful in that sense of yearning. It brings so much hope. So much presence. You have this huge motivation to get things done, to keep working hard, and to keep going. It also truly brings a lot of gratitude towards the smallest moments. For some couples, watching a movie with their partner by their side is completely normal, but for you guys, it is something you have dreamed of doing together for months; time becomes precious.
