No matter how many new social media platforms appear, Facebook will always hold a special place in my heart because it was the first one that truly felt like a digital neighborhood. It was where we uploaded blurry photos, changed our relationship status like it was breaking news, and spent hours customizing profiles instead of doing anything productive. Simpler times, honestly.
What I find funny is that even people who claim they never use Facebook anymore somehow know exactly what is happening there. They still check family updates, scroll through local groups, or end up reading comment sections that are far more entertaining than the original post. Some habits are simply impossible to quit completely.
The best thing about Facebook is that our older relatives still believe it's as popular as it was almost 20 years ago, and keep talking about it as if we were all getting in there to check the latest gossip. I'll recognize that sometimes I check my aunt Paula's account just to giggle a bit at how happy she is when she shares those little kitten memes, or uses her profile to give a speech about a random topic she came across.
Even though social media today is a whole different thing from it's begginings, we can still think that all of those platforms are great to make people and relatives feel closer. I come from a family where most of my uncles and cousins live in different countries, so it's great to see a glimpse of their daily life. Honestly, makes me feel closer and happier.
In honor of all of this, here's a fantastic collection of Facebook memes that are too good to be true. They capture a very specific internet experience that newer platforms cannot replicate. From oversharing relatives to chaotic community groups and endless notifications, these jokes remind us of where online culture really took off. If you were there from the beginning, chances are these memes will feel a little too familiar.
