    A manager mishandling wages tends to work because it operates below the threshold of what most people bother to check. Shaving minutes here, extending a lunch break on paper there, quietly marking a sick day unpaid. None of it is dramatic enough to trigger an immediate reaction, which is exactly the point. It accumulates slowly and invisibly, and the people doing it count on their employees being too busy or too trusting to ever sit down and do the math.

    The moment someone does the math, the whole thing falls apart very quickly.
