Hospital worker spends months reporting lazy coworkers who disappear for hours, only to be penalized after one gets fired: 'Be more of a team player'

Speaking up at work is important, but is it always rewarded?

Every person that have ever had a job can agree that it is fundamental to be a good coworker. No matter who you are working with, having a good relationship with them is going to make your workday ten times better. Now, when your coworker is not a team player, what would you do? That is something that u/dalastwaterbender debated herself over.

I'll say that I'm not against reporting two coworkers that dissapear for hours, and don't help get the job done. We're all here together, and we all want to leave as soon as possible, so why not all work towards the same goal? I get pretty frustrated when others take advantage of someone responsible and maybe faster at completing tasks. Hence, I'm with the OP, and I'd have reported both my lazy coworkers to management.

Now, I wouldn't expect that backlash at me and having my own raise jeopardized because of that decision. If the OP intended to get the work done faster and better (in which she succeeded, because they fired one of the girls), how come this would affect her? Well, according to her own manager, she should have been more of a "team player". Is something more of a team player than trying to improve the work? Definitely let me know your opinion.

Anyways, I may be writing these words because I can totally relate to the OP: this could have happened to me, since her attitude sounds very much like mine, and if I were in her situation and somehow came across this, I'd feel better for sure.
