America really went all in with the bald eagle. It became a symbol of freedom, patriotism, strength, unity, and majesty. Depending on where you live you might encounter them frequently or not at all. But there's something inside of us, call it our patriotic spirit or whatever you want, but if we saw an injured eagle somewhere, we wouldn't be able to drive by and do nothing. Regardless of its symbol to the American people, we can't ignore an animal who desperately needs our help. And neither could Ryan, a man in Florida who spotted an injured eagle in distress on the highway on Reddit's r/Florida community.
With the eagle being seriously injured, he scooped the beautiful bird off the road and drove it straight to a raptor rescue sanctuary. The eagle was "surprisingly calm", which, unfortunately, was not a good sign. Wild birds are not known for being calm in restrictive situations, like being in a moving vehicle, but because of her injuries, she sat patiently and put her fate in his hands.
The raptor rescue confirmed that her injuries put her in a critical state.
But we can't help but ask, what caused this bald eagle to dive into a busy highway in the first place? We don't know the exact answer but we can probably guess that it was attracted by the litter people throw out of their cars. With bald eagle habitats and hunting grounds shrinking rapidly due to human expansion, birds of prey, like eagles, are forced to adapt and find new food sources. However, they don't understand how dangerous cars are, and as a result, these kinds of accidents are happening more and more frequently.
Don't be the person that causes another one of these accidents. Throw your trash in the appropriate places, and if anything, be like Ryan. If you see an animal that needs help, call the correct authorities and do everything you can from a safe distance while waiting for official instructions. You won't just be helping the animal, you'll be helping America.
