An HOA is supposed to help the community. They are created to gather money from the homeowners to help keep the public spaces beautiful and to make sure none of the neighbors are acting out of hand. Unfortunately, more often than not, the HOA board members get power hungry, and instead of helping the community, they take their funds and use them for themselves, and then require more and more money from the homeowners. It's disgusting, and every neighborhood needs a tallMichdude to keep that from happening to their community.

This clown doubled down and told me how it would be all unicorns and rainbows if we just had an Hoa to ‘keep things under control.’
I said, ‘I don't legally even have to cut my grass, and there's zero chance I am giving you wealthy losers any say in what I do here. If you don’t like my operation now, you won't like it when I switch to hogs, which I would do just to spite you guys. If you need my permission to start one, that's fine, but don't expect me to be any part of it, nor pay any attention to whatever rules you make up. I am doing fine, and don't need big brother in an HOA telling me how to live. So if you do, that's fine, but I need no part of it.'"

Of course, the wealthiest and newest member of the community wants to start an HOA and be the head of it. What's with this greed? It truly is a disease. I'm glad this guy got told off and then scared right out of town! They should make a movie out of this. A more dramatized one, maybe, since this old farmer handled this situation so easily. We're glad his neighbors were on the same page as him.

I had him tresspassed off the property.
Three other neighbors told me they appreciated my stopping their plans.
I don't get how they think they can force someone who owns their own home, had no HOA when they bought the house, to join one. We have townships that are essentially an HOA, but with more legal oversight and proper electi0ns. Some townships here are worse than HOAs, but I chose this location because, as I mentioned, I don't even NEED to cut my grass. It doesn't matter if I want to keep an old car or ten behind the barn, if it can't be seen from the road, the township doesn't care…"

"I saw this guy was setting up for some sort of party at his place a couple of weeks later, so I went and got a trailer of liquefied hog manure from a friend who does run hogs, and sprayed my field across from him, which happened to be upwind of him.
Apparently, it worked because he sold his place three months later... just my ‘*uck you and your HOA’ story."

Truly, if you want an HOA, why? Like, actually tell me why? There are just too many stories of HOAs failing and being too controlling. Why would you want that? That sounds awful. Sure, it would be nice if the community could pull funds together to keep the local playground clean and up to safety codes for the kids, but to get fined for painting my front door yellow because it reminds me of the sun? Yeah, no thank you, go away.
