You might think that you would do anything for your partner, that there is no line you wouldn't cross in order to help them and push them forward. While that is a sweet sentiment, we all also know that if you don't set up clear boundaries within your relationship, you won't get far, no matter how much you sacrifice for each other. The whole point of devoting yourself to someone is that you both grow and learn side by side, and help each other learn from mistakes and evolve as people. But if all you do is give and give, without asking anything in return or ensuring your partner knows there are consequences… well, how can either of you learn?
The husband in the story below needs to learn how to drive responsibly. He's only had his license for less than two years, and he already has traffic violations, the most recent one being a speeding ticket he got when he was caught by a camera. Since he is still technically a new driver, these violations mean he has to take some classes.
However, he has no intention of learning from his mistakes, and instead expects his wife to take the blame. He wants her to lie and say that she was the one driving the car when the camera caught her speeding, and he wants the ticket to be transferred to her name so that he won't have to take the driving classes.
As we mentioned, you shouldn't compromise on your principles and values for the sake of your relationship, which is why the wife refused to give in to her husband's demands. It's time he learns from his mistakes, and she is willing to be there to help him. Unfortunately, her refusal to take the blame for the ticket was not enough to stop his entitled behavior.
