    Father questions why his daughter is driving around her trucker husband, who drives 2,000 miles per week: 'I'm petty, I couldn't stay silent'

    Why is this father-in-law having a conversation about driving with his daughter's husband? 

    In most relationships, tasks aren't split 50/50. They're split depending on a variety of other factors. Like, maybe you load the dishwasher for your spouse because the repetitive bending motions hurt their back, and in return, they cook meals, because you burn every meal you make. For some couples, one partner always takes out the trash, and to reciprocate, the other person will sweep the floors. There's always some give and take to it. 

    Naturally, this also applies to driving. Say one spouse works, and the other is a stay at home parent. It would make sense for the stay at home spouse to just drive most of the time, because they've already got the seats and mirrors adjusted to their own specifications. They're already driving 5 days per week, so if they don't mind driving, or even enjoy it, who cares which person drives?

    Well, this father-in-law cares a lot, actually. And his reasoning has got his daughter and her husband questioning who should actually be doing the driving.

      "I just don't see why it matters"

      It literally doesn't matter! Thank goodness this guy and his wife can both see that. There's no reason why either of them can't drive. Clearly, the husband just doesn't want to because he drives all week long. It's the same as a chef who doesn't want to cook a gourmet meal when they return from work: you just get tired of doing the same things over and over again. If your partner cares about your needs, they'll see that weariness in your eyes and take over that task for you with no questions asked.

      With some family members, you just have to accept that they're "like that" and will probably never change. But that key word is "probably." Maybe they'll change with enough pressure, or in this case, with enough playful mockery.

      Even when our parents and grandparents were young, I don't think there was a divide over this. Very strange.

      The wife probably hasn't addressed this because she's used to her dad's antics. But if it's bothering her husband, it should be on her mind. She could take a subtle approach or an overt one. Maybe that's something she and the husband could discuss further before actually deciding on a path to take.
