Growing up is realizing Squidward was not a villain at all. He was just a tired employee trapped inside the Krusty Krab dealing with nonstop noise, chaotic coworkers, and customers asking questions that would make any normal person stare blankly into the distance. Childhood is wanting to be SpongeBob. Adulthood is understanding why Squidward constantly wanted everyone to leave him alone forever.

Squidward also perfectly captures the emotional damage of becoming an adult with responsibilities.
