    Potential homebuyers demand neighbor stop parking in her own driveway before buying house next door, she says no, they send a contract: ‘[You] have to agree to park in the street from now on’

    The most absurd part of it all is that the potential homebuyers had no right to challenge the neighbor in the first place. Yet they still felt it was completely reasonable to draft a contract imposing conditions on their potential future neighbor and send it over for her to sign, so they could finally buy the house.

    Like any property owner, this neighbor uses her driveway as part of her daily routine. Everything was pretty normal for her until a couple knocked on her door to ask her to stop using her own driveway so they could feel comfortable buying the house next door.

      Potential buyers of house next door want coworker to park on street!

      Coworker's (CW) driveway is between her and the neighbors(NB) house. NB is selling their house to move closer to their daughter since they are older and need help. CW was sitting at home watching TV when someone started ringing doorbell.

    • Of course, she has every right to refuse to give up access to her own driveway. And for what? They didn't even offer her compensation. Why would she accept such a request? This expectation had no grounding in reality or fairness. The use of her driveway is part of her property rights and her daily routine, so why would she give that up for someone else's convenience and for free?

    • What makes the situation even more striking is that the demand didn't stop there. They went as far as sending over a contract that included penalties if she failed to comply, expecting her to sign it. This only escalated the discussion; it went from an unreasonable request to an entirely absurd situation involving basic property rights. Obviously, the homeowner refused to sign.

    • Buyers are free to consider what kind of environment they want to live in, but they can't decide over someone else's property rights, and they absolutely can't impose conditions on them.
