    Man asks friend about future plans with his girlfriend, he happily shares engagement hopes, friend suddenly turns into relationship doomsayer: 'Bro, no one’s gonna wanna marry you'.

    Most friends would be thrilled to celebrate proposal plans.This one chose emotional sabotage instead.

    After hearing his friend wanted to marry his girlfriend, one man responded with an unexpectedly bitter rant about why the relationship would eventually fail. If your friend tells you they're thinking about proposing to their girlfriend, there are a few expected reactions. Congratulate them. Ask to see the ring. Pretend to know something about diamonds for thirty seconds. Maybe joke about how expensive weddings are.

    What you generally don't do is immediately start explaining why their future wife is probably going to abandon them someday. And yet, that's exactly where this conversation ended up.

    The original poster was talking with a friend about future plans with his girlfriend when the topic of marriage came up. Pretty normal conversation. The kind people have every day without accidentally opening a portal to somebody else's unresolved relationship issues.

    • Instead of reacting like a normal human being, though, the friend suddenly pivoted into this deeply cynical rant about commitment, basically warning the guy that his girlfriend would eventually get bored, find someone better, and leave.

      Which is an insane response to hearing that your friend is happy.

      Not even because it’s not nice, though it absolutely is, but because it completely changes the tone of the conversation for no reason. Imagine opening up about wanting to spend your life with someone and the other person responds like they’re narrating the downfall of civilization.

      The energy instantly shifts from “my friend is excited about his future” to “this guy has clearly been waiting for an opportunity to unload some personal baggage.”

There’s no actual advice in what he’s saying, no thoughtful questions, no attempt to understand the relationship. Just a very aggressive insistence that happiness is temporary and love is basically a scam.

      That kind of reaction always feels less like honesty and more like projection wearing sunglasses indoors.

      The internet immediately started trying to figure out what this guy’s deal was. Some people thought he secretly liked the girlfriend. Others guessed he’d recently gone through a breakup and decided every relationship on earth should suffer alongside him. A few people thought the exchange sounded dramatic enough to be fake, which honestly wouldn’t be shocking either.

      Still, the story blew up because the situation feels painfully recognizable. Most people know at least one person who hears good news and somehow turns it into an excuse for emotional doomposting.

      And there’s something uniquely exhausting about people who act like cynicism is wisdom while everyone else is just trying to celebrate something nice.
