    Wife cancels expensive countryside vacation after husband claims he’s too sick to leave on time after gaming all morning

    Planning a surprise countryside getaway for a partner who said they were feeling down is a genuinely thoughtful and romantic move, at least in theory. In practice, surprising a gloomy person with a mandatory fun itinerary and an 11 am departure time is a bit of a gamble that did not quite pay off here.

The problem is that feeling down and being ready for a scheduled outing with kayaking on the agenda are two different emotional states, and checking in before booking might have saved everyone a lot of grief.

The argument that gaming was fine but a car ride was not is the kind of logic that sounds reasonable in your own head and falls apart the second you say it out loud to someone who planned and paid for a trip on your behalf.
