"My neighbor asked if I had any "extra" furniture after seeing I'd just moved in"
So I literally unpacked my last box like two days ago. Neighbor from across the hall knocks, introduces herself, seems normal. Asks if the move went well, we chat for a bit. Then she goes "oh by the way, do you have any spare furniture you're not using? I saw you had a lot of boxes." I had a lot of boxes because I JUST MOVED IN. Everything in those boxes is mine and I'm currently using it or plan to. I told her no, sorry, I just brought everything I own and don't really have extras. She nodded and left.

Okay fine, whatever. But then yesterday she texted me (we'd exchanged numbers being neighbors) asking if I had a spare bed frame "since a lot of people buy new ones when they move." I don't. I kept my old one. I told her that.
Today she knocked again and asked if I had a coffee table I "wasn't attached to." I just bought it three weeks ago, it's the one I wanted for like two years. I said no. She went "oh that's too bad, mine broke and I've been looking around the building."

Like I feel bad that her table broke but I genuinely don't understand why she assumed I'd have furniture to give away just because I moved in? I'm not a furniture store. And it's been three separate asks in four days which is starting to feel like alot. Not sure if I should say something or just keep saying no untill she gets the hint.

Comments:What a mooch. When people move they get rid of unwanted stuff before they move so they don't have to pay to move it or waste effort bringing it. Tell her that as she's too dumb to figure this out. Also, she'll be asking you for favors constantly. Be forewarned / Zoreb1

You need nip this in the bud before it goes further. These people have no shame.
She probably saw that you have nicer stuff than her, and assumed that you can afford to buy new things if she keeps asking. It hasn't crossed her mind that you would've already dumped whatever you didn't want BEFORE you moved in.
I ran into something similar a while back. I have a lot of tech and gear, and when a neighbor saw these, he kept asking to "borrow" them. Why the h**l would you borrow a flat screen tv? When I brought up that these are expensive and that we are strangers, he kept insisting that we're not, and that I needed to be "neighborly" and share. After a couple of times, I basically told him to never contact me. / New_Doctor_2022

Next time she messages you, start asking if she has a spare… something.
“Hey sorry, I don’t have a spare coffee table. Do you have a spare KitchenAid stand mixer you’re not using? It needs to match my toaster” / FullMoonMooon

We gladly give our neighbors a few eggs or our ladder if they need it, but we have never had a chance to give someone a piece of furniture.
Someone ought to tell this neighbor that it's time to stop knocking on people's doors and ask for the things she doesn't want to buy for herself…
