Selfishly, the parents didn't see it that way and tried to pressure him to cave, but he wouldn't.
He couldn't afford it. They couldn't afford it. And that should have been the end of it, but instead, they kept pushing, trying to find ways to make it work for everyone.
Luckily, for these parents, they raised a man with a good head on his shoulders. He not only refused to subsidize their housing but also agreed to help them find something more within their means. He didn't want to abandon them; he simply wanted to help them find something that was a better fit for their lifestyle and their wallets. Graciously, this young man made a wise decision that protected his own financial future and put his parents' best interests in mind.
Because after spending even a moment looking at senior living brochures, it's easy to see how aging parents could be coerced into living above their means. Wrapped up in a shiny, perfect package, everyone growing older wants to feel like they have the luxury life at their fingertips, but a lavish life doesn't always mean a lavish price tag.
If you look hard enough, a frugal person can always find a good deal on a great life; this guy's parents just needed to learn to compromise their tastes in exchange for real happiness.
