Running has stages. Very real, very dramatic stages that every runner goes through, sometimes all within the same 30 minutes.
Stage one: confidence. You put on your outfit, queue up the perfect playlist, and genuinely believe this is going to be your run. Effortless, refreshing, maybe even life-changing. You step outside like the main character. Life is good!

Stage two hits almost immediately: regret. Why are you doing this? Who told you this was a good idea? Your legs feel heavy, your breathing is loud, and suddenly walking seems like a deeply attractive alternative. This is also the stage where you start bargaining. “Okay, maybe just one mile.”

Stage three: survival mode. You’re in it now. There’s no turning back without admitting defeat (to yourself, which somehow feels worse). You start focusing on random things to keep going, street signs, dogs, that one oddly shaped cloud. Your brain is doing everything it can to distract you from the fact that you’re still running.

Then, out of nowhere, stage four: the shift.
Your breathing evens out. Your pace settles. A song hits just right. And suddenly… you feel good? Like, actually good. This is the runner’s high everyone talks about, and it feels a little unreal every single time. You go from “I can’t do this” to “I could run forever” in a matter of minutes.
Stage five: main character energy. You’re not just running—you’re thriving. You’re reflecting on life, solving problems, romanticizing everything. This is your moment.

And finally, stage six: post-run enlightenment. You stop, completely sweaty and slightly exhausted, but also weirdly powerful. You drink water like you’ve earned it. You consider becoming “someone who runs” permanently.
These memes get every single one of those stages. The chaos, the drama, the payoff. Because running might test you every time, but somehow, it always gives something back.
