Moving out is one of those moments you build up in your head for years.
It’s the ultimate goal. Your own space, your own rules, your own life. You picture it so clearly: decorating everything exactly how you like it, lighting a candle at night, maybe having a glass of wine with friends while music plays in the background. A place that feels entirely yours.
And of course, the little dreams too.

Finally getting the pet your parents never allowed. Leaving things exactly where you want them. Eating whatever you want, whenever you want. It all feels very cinematic, very put together.
And then… you actually move out. Suddenly, there are a lot of things no one really romanticized for you. Like realizing you have to buy everything. Or that groceries somehow disappear immediately. Or that if you don’t clean, nothing gets cleaned. Ever.

You start noticing the quiet more. Sometimes it’s peaceful, sometimes it’s a little too quiet. You learn which random noises are normal and which ones will have you staring at your door for a full minute.
And then there are the small, oddly specific moments.
Standing in your kitchen at midnight eating something questionable because you didn’t plan dinner. Turning into your own parent by reminding yourself to do basic tasks. Getting way too excited about things like having a clean space or finally doing laundry on time.

But here’s the thing. Even with all the not-so-glamorous parts, there’s something about it that just feels right.
Because in between the chaos, there are those moments you imagined. The cozy nights. The spontaneous plans. The feeling of coming home and knowing it’s your space. No one else’s. You start building your own routines, your own comfort, your own version of what home looks like.
And even if it’s not perfect, even if it’s a little messy or unpredictable, it’s yours. Which somehow makes all of it, every small struggle, every weird moment, every tiny win, completely worth it.
