    Mom tells 14-year-old son that his GF needs to limit her time at their home: 'It's getting to be too much. She's here like 5-6 days a week'

    Teens are often glued at the hip to their best friends and their partners, and this 44-year-old Mom is getting tired of seeing the same faces around her home all the time

    When your kids are little, their parents are completely in control of their social life. But once they grow up a little bit, they start making all kinds of plans with their friends, telling their parents about it at the last minute. 

    That can lead to some great times in a teenager's life — hanging out with friends, boyfriends, or girlfriends every day after school is the best. Who among us didn't come home from school with their best friend, take a nap together, then eat a giant meal, watch TV, and do their homework? Sometimes teens spend hours on the couch playing video games, while other times they're outdoors all day running around. 

    But you can't blame this 44-year-old Mom for having her peace and quiet disturbed… can you? 

    She's getting a little tired of suddenly seeing her son's girlfriend at her home every single day!

    • Am I wrong for limiting the amount of time my son's girlfriend can spend at our house?

      I (44f) have two kids, a 14 year old and a 11 year old. My 14 year old has a new girlfriend and we met her a few weeks ago.

    • Shes here like 5-6 days per week. I like her, when her and my son cool they clean up the kitchen and don't make a ruckus of anything, but I like to be able to decompress when I get to my house with my family.

    • And I have a right to do that.. Over the weekend, I told my son that his girlfriend can only come over 3 days a week.

      I told him that anything more was getting too much for me. If they want to hangout after school more often than that, that's fine but she just can't be in my house 6 days a week.

      Why can't they hang at the GF's house? 

      I mean, usually one family is more "fun" than another. Whichever home has the least strict parents is the home that the teens will choose to hang at. But that doesn't mean that they should just avoid the GF's home forever, unless there's a real reason that they can't hang there.

      ChellesBelles89 Nta. But as that gf when I was a kid, going to my bf was my refuge from a terrible home life so maybe that's why it's happening ?

      AdmirableChange7328 Original Poster's Reply The last time they went to her house was a week or two ago. But apparently they don't like going there because she has siblings and it's more "crowded."

    • Boring-Credit-3977 What did your son used to do before he got this girlfriend? Has been suddenly stopped hanging out with his friends or slacking on homework? Is she is visiting 5-6 times a week he has less time for other things. Balance is important for his life too, outside of the whole issue of her being at the house too much.

    • This is a bit strange that she spends 3 out of 5 school days just waiting around for her BF to be done with sports

      AdmirableChange7328 Original Poster's Reply He's in high school (I know he's only 14, but yeah). He stays for football offseason workouts after school 3 days a week, and she waits for him to be done. Then she comes with when I pick him up, and they do homework and other things.

    • Those sports kids are built tough! They go to school all day, attend frequent practices and games after school, then still have to manage their homework and social life after all that is done. 

      These 3 days would be the perfect time for the GF to hang out with her own friends instead of her BF. I mean, at the very least, she could hang out with friends while she's waiting several hours for him to get done. This makes it seem like she's just sitting in her car from 3 PM until football practice lets out, which is wasting hours of valuable time.

      AdmirableChange7328 Original Poster's Reply She has I believe like 4 siblings. My son says she thinks it's too "crowded." So they can, they just don't want to.

      Also, if she's the oldest, she won't get any time to relax. She'll have to provide childcare. At the BF's home, they can probably relax to their hearts' content.

    • Swirlyflurry NTA I can't decompress or relax. properly when there's a guest in my house. Even if it's someone I know well and get along with. Not being able to unwind in your own home 6 days a week is too much.

    • angelsofty01 NTA however I used to be that girl. Lol when I was a teenager I would go to my boyfriend's house everyday after school and we'd hang out there all the time. His mom said "don't ya'll get tired of seeing each other everyday "we always said no. We were so in love. She asked if I could stop coming over so much. We then started hanging out at my family's house instead, and a few weeks later I guess she missed us being over there so she started asking my boyfriend why I stopped coming ov

    • MamasSweetPickels Think of it this way. If they are at your house they are not somewhere else doing things that only adults should do. You can control the atmosphere to some extent.

    • This Mom could easily come up with a plan for her son and his GF! For example, she might insist on them having a date night out once a week instead of spending 24/7 lounging on the couch. She could say the GF can only come over on certain days, or at certain hours. Or she could take the classic parenting approach of kicking them both outside for the afternoon to entertain themselves with sports or hanging out with friends. Thanks to all the helpful advice from commenters, she now has plenty of ideas to ruminate on before making any decisions.
