    Neighbor uses large truck to block homeowner's EV charger that he paid to have installed in his own parking space: 'I cleared it with the HOA paid for the professional install'

    A homeowner installs a fully approved EV charger, only to have the parking space taken and charger blocked by a neighbor who is convinced it's environmentally dangerous

    Everyone has opinions, but it doesn't mean they're right. Even when they're wrong there's a sliding scale of the ones that are more plausible, like you can kind of follow their logic and see how they got to their conclusion, but then there's the ones where you literally want to put your hands to your head and declare, "What?!" as the confusion crosses your face.

    No matter how you feel about electric vehicles and your reasoning for it, it's just a fact that taking someone else's parking space because of your own personal feelings about something and actively impeding their ability to go out about their day is just a pitifully sad thing to do. If you're going to get that worked up about the fact that a car gets plugged in there's clearly some other severe emotional issue going on.

      My neighbor is literally blockading my EV charger

      I moved into this townhouse complex about six months ago and everything was fine until i decided to install a level 2 charger for my hybrid in my designated parking spot. i cleared it with the hoa paid for the professional install and even have a separate meter so i am paying for every kilowatt myself. then my neighbor who drives a beat up diesel truck that smells like a chimney fire decided this was a personal insult to his lifestyle.

      the day after the install he stops me while i am plugging in and starts this unhinged rant about how the high voltage cables are poisoning the soil and creating an electromagnetic field that is giving his wife headaches. i tried to show him the permits and the grounding specs but he just kept pointing at my cable. and shaking his head like i was burying toxic waste in the garden.

      now for the last three days i have come home to find his truck parked at a weird forty five degree angle that completely blocks access to my charging port. when i asked him to move he just leaned out his window and told me he is protecting the community environment from my wires and that if i want to charge i should go to a public station like a normal person. it is pure insanity because i am literally blocked from

      using equipment i paid thousands to install on my own assigned spot. i have already contacted the hoa but they move at the speed of a turtle and in the meantime i am stuck burning gas because this guy has a personal vendetta against batteries. it feels like i am living next to a budget movie villain who thinks electricity is black magic.

    • This goes doubly for anyone who is seemingly incapable of parking between the marked lines of parking spaces or showing a modicum of respect for other people. There is really no reason to treat your neighbors like this. There's a reason why being "neighborly" has a connotation of being helpful, friendly, or kind to those in your community. Though I'm sure a lot of us would sooner change that meaning based on our experiences with our own neighbors.

      After clearing it with the HOA of the townhome complex where he lived and paying to install an EV charger at his own parking space, this homeowner soon found that his neighbor was making a point of taking up his space by parking across the lines of multiple spaces. This is a great reminder that some people really think electricity is some kind of magic that is powering all of our devices and the homeowner's reference to a "budget movie villain" is pretty on point.

      JukeboxOracle5 Original Poster's Reply That is the logical next step. I just worry he will try to mess with my charger or key my car if I get his truck towed. The guy is clearly not stable if he thinks wires are black magic.

      JukeboxOracle5 Original Poster's Reply Trust me, they have the same wall of text in their inbox. I am just posting here to see if anyone else has dealt with "electricity is poison" neighbors before. It is hard to stay civil when you are literally being blocked from your own property.

      West-Gur4598 Call a tow truck and or the police non emergency line. If they are no help. I would also escalate with the HOA. Tell them if they arnt going to stop him after you got permission / permits through them then you expect them to reimburse you for the cost of the install / equipment.

      JessieColt Are you serious? Look in your HOA bylaws to see what if anything it says about parking and towing. Do whatever it says you are allowed to do regarding parking issues. Does it say you cannot call a tow truck? If no, then call a tow truck and have your neighbors car towed. Take pictures of their car blocking your parking spot and the charging station while you wait for the tow truck to show up.
