Position was vacated, I applied internally. Was told the position was being dissolved for now and was then given the role’s responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the team that was in that vacant role was scrambling, frantic, and overworked. They're practically begging you to come and help them with their work since you are, technically, the most qualified person in the organization to do that work. Still, eventually, you're told that the position is being dissolved altogether.
Then the worst happens, the responsibilities of that “dissolved” role suddenly become your responsibilities, you're expected and trusted to do the work, but you're not going to be given the title… or the pay.
This experience is all too common, and increasingly so. As trends everywhere point to employers looking to reduce their bottom line by cutting down on staff wherever possible.
And this is exactly what this worker experienced in a series of events that left her bewildered in a job that she had been in for 6 months. The silver lining, if there is one to be had here, is that she had only been in her current role for 6 months. This happens to some people after years of working at the same company, with their loyalty not being repaid in kind.
