If you grew up watching Uptown Girls, you probably didn’t realize at the time how real it would feel later in life. I know I didn't.
Because when you’re a kid, you look at adulthood the way Molly Gunn probably did, fun, carefree, full of possibilities. No rules, no bedtimes, just doing whatever you want, whenever you want. It feels like the ultimate goal. And then you grow up… and suddenly you’re a little closer to Ray than you expected.
Organized, responsible, trying to hold everything together, making lists, planning ahead, doing everything “right.” And yet, somehow, it doesn’t feel as magical as you imagined it would. That’s the part no one really prepares us for.
Growing up I was convinced that being an adult was the most fabulous thing a person could experience. And hey! Sometimes it is, and well, other times you're just standing there wondering who wrote the script of your life, because what the heck is going on? (Its me I am the writer of my life and clearly have no clue what I'm doing). Because what do you mean life is not a constant adventure of tea parties and shopping sprees with our gals?

Because adulthood isn’t just one thing. It’s not fully Molly, and it’s not fully Ray. It’s this weird in-between where you’re expected to be responsible while still figuring everything out in real time.
Some days you feel put together, answering emails, staying on top of things, acting like you know exactly what you’re doing. And other days, you just want to listen to music too loud, dance around your room, and forget that you have responsibilities waiting for you.
I think that's what's hardest, figuring out how to get to that balance. Because Uptown Girls was never really about choosing one over the other, it was about learning from both. Molly needed a little structure, and Ray needed a little softness. Somewhere in the middle, they both found something that actually worked. And so should we!

And maybe that’s what growing up really is. Not losing that whimsical, carefree energy, but learning how to exist with it in a world that also asks a lot from you. You don’t have to completely outgrow the parts of you that feel light, playful, or a little unrealistic.
You’re allowed to still find joy in small, silly things. You’re allowed to romanticize your life a little. You’re allowed to be responsible and still not take everything so seriously all the time.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’re supposed to have it all figured out, but deep down you’re still a little bit of that kid who just wants to enjoy things for what they are… You’re probably right where you need to be.
