"Neighbor redirected their downspout toward our yard and says she can do whatever she wants on her side
My neighbor recently installed some kind of connection from her downspout right along the property line. The problem is that whenever it rains, it dumps a ton of water straight toward our yard. I’m not talking about normal runoff either. It literally pours like a mini waterfall and floods the area next to our fence and part of our yard.

Before she added this setup, the water never flowed like this. Now every decent rainstorm turns that section of our yard into a muddy mess. I’m worried long-term it could damage our fence, landscaping, or even the foundation if it keeps happening.
I tried to talk to her about it calmly, just explaining that the water is coming directly onto our property now and asking if there’s a way she could redirect it somewhere else. She basically shrugged and said she can do whatever she wants on her side of the fence and that it’s not her problem if I don’t like it.

The neighbor's baffling response is more than just unkind. It's downright asking for drama. If I were the homeowner, I would interpret this unnecessary aggression as a sign that this neighbor is willing to deal with the consequences of having her downspout cause potential long-lasting water damage to someone else's property.
The next step, in my opinion, would be to document everything and then have someone survey the property to confirm that the excessive runoff is crossing the line. If the neighborhood has an HOA, this would be the right time to use it. Hopefully, the neighbor doesn't have much influence on the board (or isn't a board member herself). Regardless, it will be hard for her to argue with the facts.

That response really caught me off guard. I wasn’t trying to start a fight, just hoping we could find a simple solution.
Now I’m stuck dealing with all this extra water every time it rains and a neighbor who refuses to even consider fixing it.
Right now, it just feels like I’m stuck waiting for the next storm and the next flood."
