  • Cut ex’s internet off for the whole family after she cheated

My ex (27f) and I (27m) were together for over a year. I moved in pretty quickly, moving into the house she rented with her two kids (5 and 8 y/o.) 6 months in she cheated.
  • Long story short we stayed together. I moved out and got my own apartment. Because I already had my name set up for her internet and we were staying together, I just kept paying it.
  • It wasn't expensive, but $30 she and her kids used for free. I had set up my TV in the living room along with my Xbox and iPad that I let the kids use.

  • When I moved out, I never took back those items because the kids liked using them.
  • Well, 6 months after the first affair she cheated again. This time a week after our 1 year anniversary, and days before my birthday.

  • With the same guy. She left me on read for hours when I asked if she had spent the night with him.

  • Finally responding by sending me a shared notes app document saying yes she did and she's been having a great time.
  • I felt all those typical feelings of hurt that I had felt before. Anger, confusion, self doubt etc.
  • I didn't respond for a few days. In one of those days, I realized the internet bill was due soon.

  • So I pulled the app up and began poking around in the settings. I realized I could toggle the internet on/off remotely.
  • Maybe only an hour of debating is when I decided to pull the trigger and disconnect it for them.

  • You might think that's not a big deal, but I knew how reliant those devices were to getting the kids to cooperate or as a distraction/motivator when trying to get the kids to do anything really.
  • The 8y/o loved Minecraft and the 5 y/o loved the IPad. It was a great bargaining tool when getting them to clean or staying out of the way when cooking or cleaning.
  • Great for times when we just needed an hour to ourselves to unwind. Or a way to bond with the kids and participate in what they were up to.

  • These devices were a major help most days. I knew that by cutting the wifi, the kids would start throwing a fit and causing my ex's day to be more difficult.
  • I didn't know if they'd realize immediately or if they would come home after a long day, just trying to relax and get night time routines going, and then be met with unexpected silence.
  • That was about 9 months ago so maybe I left some details out It's not my proudest moment but I don't regret it.

  • Mediocre-Catch9580 You let them have your iPad, x box and TV? Don't they have personal information on them?
  • EliF1324 Original Poster's Reply When I moved out, I did leave my devices there so the kids could use them. My ex and I were still together when I moved out so I was over there often. After the second time she cheated, I went over a few weeks later to collect all of my things including the Xbox and IPad. I left the TV because we were discussing her buying it off of me. She didn't and I chucked it up to a loss worth paying for. All of it was pretty stupid but I loved those kids and didn't want to
  • alpine309 So like, what happened? How did the kids react?

  • EliF1324 Original Poster's Reply I never found out if it had any impact at all. Never got an angry text or anything. I think she knew what I did eventually and accepted that. Or maybe she never realized. Either way, it was more for me anyways regardless of the what actually ended up happening. I did get the modem back and stopped paying for the internet that month.
  • RubyRaven13 In the end she still made out like a bandit. She will have a new guy paying for the Internet and she gets a bunch of expensive tech for free. Dude please, I need you to stand up for yourself going forward.
  • The_Loudest Bear2 You were more generous to her than I would have been!

  • VastEmergency 1000 The way she was cheating on you while simultaneously depending on you is crazy. Like she had no respect for you and borderline hated you. I'm glad you've moved on and dodged a pregnancy bullet.
  • Malibucat48 Her affair partner can pay for her kids WiFi and Xbox. It seems she moves men in fairly quickly so they won't be without a new daddy for long.
