This person shared that Dan has accidentally, coincidentally, forgotten his wallet like 15 times in 2 months. That is truly ridiculous! I'm surprised that this employee would let something like that go on for so long without a single Venmo transaction passing between the 2 of them. I know it can be awkward to send a Venmo request — it almost feels like begging! — but at this point, they might have to deal with the awkwardness and just request it.

I'm curious why this person would let it go this long without insisting that he buy the next meal. They could phrase it like, “Hey, we're all going out to eat, but Dan, you owe me for a bunch of meals, so you've got me today, right?” That would make him squirm, and he'd basically be forced into paying (or else admit that he can't afford a meal for either himself or the coworker).

As Dan here quickly realized, sometimes the only way to get someone to pay up is to publicly embarrass them into doing it. No one wants to be the broke person in the group! That's what credit cards are for, Dan.
This person also probably learned a lesson about lending someone money like, 15 times without getting paid back. After the second or third time, you have to either accept that you're not getting paid back, or put your foot down and demand that you get paid!
