He found a wholesome workaround that makes everyone happy.
For most of us in the workforce, the day we retire is the day we never set foot in an office building again. Jaded workers are bedraggled by the prospect of heading into the workplace, dreaming instead of guilt-free mai tais in Barbados, silver-haired cruises, and living in cheap 55+ communities by the beach in a no-tax state. Imagine taking back 40+ personal hours every week? You could have an actual hobby!
And yet, others see retirement as a cessation of their lifelong achievements, and some may even lament the day that they stop working. However, wholesomeness never stops working. In the case of the security guard in this next story, a man who not only took his building protection seriously, but valued the "people" aspect of his career more than anything. Every day, he would see tired, unmotivated office workers enter his building, and he would respond to their coffee-free hands and lackluster expressions with the voice of positivity. He craved the motivation, and he spent every day hoping to put a smile on at least one person's face. For him, that was a victory.
However, after retirement, this was increasingly difficult. He was no longer stationed at the front lines of any building, apart from his home, and he missed seeing his upstairs coworkers twice a day as they passed through the revolving doors.
But then he had an idea!
An idea that was so sweet and so heartfelt that the employees in this building would never forget it.
Nor could they forget the retired man who made it his solemn mission to tackle employee loneliness, demotivation, and that itch to quit on the spot. In his retired years, he found a new purpose of positivity, leaving notes in the stairwell to empower and impassion his ex-colleagues, becoming a motivator in secret, using post-it notes as pixie dust and kind words as fuel to power an unstoppable positivity machine.
