I messed up today by oversleeping and almost ruining my best friend's 4AM wedding.

So my best friend was having a 4AM destination wedding. Yes. FOUR. IN. THE. MORNING. Makeup for me, the bride's mom, and the groom's mom was scheduled for 9:30PM the night before. The bride asked if I could drive them since I had rented a car. Bride's mom was staying at the bride's sister's house, and groom's mom was at a hotel about 5 minutes from mine. Easy. Simple. I got this.

Except... I did not got this. For some mysterious, cursed reason, my iPhone alarm decided to be silent. This has happened to me before (and no, my phone was NOT on silent). So instead of waking up at 9PM like a responsible adult and supportive best friend, I woke up at 11PM because my husband got up to use the bathroom. Two. Hours. Late.

Meanwhile, both moms had been waiting for me for an hour. They eventually panicked and woke up the bride to figure out what to do. So now it's the middle of the night before her wedding and instead of peacefully preparing to get married, she's stress- spiraling because I vanished from existence. They ended up starting their makeup around 10:30PM without me. Mine didn't start until 11:30PM.

When I finally saw my best friend, she was upset (rightfully so). I felt like absolute garbage. Full anxiety attack. Apologized approximately one thousand times. I was convinced I had permanently damaged our friendship and possibly the entire institution of marriage. She eventually calmed down and the wedding was beautiful, but I still feel sick thinking about it.

I know I messed up by not waking up. That part is on me. But a tiny irrational part of my brain keeps wondering... couldn't they have woken up the bride's sister? Or called an Uber? Or literally anything other than waking up the bride at 10PM to tell her her bridesmaid disappeared? Anyway. TIFU by trusting my iPhone and almost becoming the villain in my best friend's wedding story forever.

TL;DR: I overslept and didn't pick up the bride and groom's moms for wedding makeup, they woke up the bride in a panic, and I almost ruined my best friend's 4AM wedding before it even started.

Commenters had a lot to say about this choice.

LadyMystery It's like... I'd rather a midnight wedding than a 4am wedding. nobody's up at that hour!

S.. Why was the wedding at 4am? Honestly just seems like the bride/groom were asking for something to go wrong. Also, do these people not own phones? If your phone wasn't actually on silent, you would have heard a phone call, no? This whole thing confuses me.

pizzaalapenguins This sounds like poor planning and decision making on others parts. I mean yes, you slept in but someone couldn't have called or figured out another way... As others have said if a 4 am wedding?!

LackingUtility For some mysterious, cursed reason, my iPhone alarm decided to be silent. This has happened to me before (and no, my phone was NOT on silent). If your phone is set to Sleep Focus mode, it silences.

regular alarms. There's a different "wake up" alarm that turns off sleep mode and makes sound. Both are in the "alarms" tab under the clock the wake up one - you want is at the top and labeled "wake up". If you instead use one of the "other" alarms, it'll be silent. Yes, it's stupid and unclear.

jerry111165 There should've definitely been back up plans in place on everybody's part. If somebody wasn't there a phone calls end door poundings should've been made.

Sleepyllama23 You know when you have to stay up all night because you have to take an early flight and you feel like sh and you're exhausted the whole of the next day.... She wanted everyone at her wedding to feel like this? No. way I would be attending this and I can't blame OP for falling asleep.

salsanacho Yeah you messed up, always set double alarms for this kind of thing. But this is also on the bride for having an insanely stupid wedding timeframe... weddings are already logistically difficult. at regular time of day, don't make it even more difficult by choosing a really stupid time of day.

maverick57 You set an alarm to wake up at 9:30pm? What time does one go to bed at wake up at 9:30pm? What possible reason is there to have a wedding at 4:30 in the morning? Why are people getting makeup hours and hours before the photos and the wedding?

Sea_cake_ OP We had the photos with the bride (making off) at 2am. Wedding started at 5:30am, I think. But they wanted everyone there at 4am. Sunrise was at 5:30 - The first sunrise in South America. I spent the day at the beach, and went to sleep like 5/6pm.
