    It is often claimed that up to 50% of people have no internal monologue.

    Some of us just do not think in words, and wow, how peaceful that sounds to many of us who do. Brains are weird and fascinating inventions, and this means that they have a terrible tendency to make things difficult for themselves. For the however many percent of people who talk to themselves inside, overthinking is one of those annoying issues. Sometimes the mind doesn't seem like it could shut up even if it wanted to.

    As we all know, modern life does not help when it comes to adding to the things that we have to think about. Between the ups and downs of life and world events, there is all too much to be overwhelmed by. That is before we even take into account the general detritus that can be found on the mainstream internet. It is enough to make anybody's head feel busy.

    On the other hand, there is a pleasant quietening effect that can be had when we look at the right side of stuff online. Memes may be full of information, but they are also something that most of us associate with switching off and entertaining ourselves. It is something that all of us need from time to time, no matter what the inside of our brains looks like. There is something to be said for replacing the mess of the monologue with the mess of that provided by memers. It's oddly soothing.
