Am I the bad guy for emailing my roommates new boss and telling them she stole my entire professional portfolio to get the job?

Supportive friends lend an open ear and provide emotional support. They aren't supposed to finance your life indefinitely when you can't get a job.

How is she choosing her ego over her survival? She clearly is surviving pretty well off of her roommate's labor anyway: she lets her pay her bills for her! Her roommate chose to give her money and groceries, no matter how short-sighted that decision ultimately proved to be. She probably could've lived off of that for a while and gotten a job she was actually qualified for! She didn't have to work in her field; she could've gotten a job doing anything! But she wanted the high-status position that working for this agency would bring her, even if she was destined to get found out eventually. Maybe she thought her roommate could do her work for her, too? She clearly expects her to do everything else!

I cannot imagine a world where she would be the bad guy for doing this. She needs to protect her own professional reputation!

She's about to have a difficult couple of months living with someone who doesn't pay their own bills and is more than willing to steal from her without any remorse. She should check her milk for any phlem globbers, or worse, until she can get out of this terrible living situation.

Maybe she isn't looking for a new job right now! If she had applied to the position with her portfolio, it would've raised a lot of red flags for the recruiters, and it's likely that neither of them would've gotten the job. It might've looked like they both stole the work from somewhere else.
