Am I the bad guy for removing my roommate’s access to the thermostat after he kept turning my place into a sauna?

I understand cranking the heat up to 80 degrees when the house is 60 degrees, and the only way to get it to budge to 62 degrees is to set it to 80. But there's literally no reason to hang around in a house that's 80 degrees. If that feels good to you, you might want to check whether there's something wrong with your internal temperature regulation. 80 degrees is barely pleasant outside, let alone in your house. I know we all want to stay warm in the winter, but unless you're a millionaire, you shouldn't keep the heat set to the highest possible temperature all the time.

I wonder if he's like this in other areas of his life. If someone accuses someone of financially ab*sing them for asking them to turn the heat down, they're probably not a rational person when you throw away their old leftovers.

At the end of the day, the only solution to this problem is for one of them to move out. You can't live with someone long-term if they're not willing to compromise about the most basic things, especially things that are costing both of you hundreds of dollars. It's no fun to have to pack up all your stuff and pay movers, but at the end of the day, it costs so much in stress to live with someone who disrespects your space and your bank account. Clearly, there is no getting through to this guy. He's not going to change.
