In case you did not know, the rule for bringing pets on the subway in New York City states that people can only bring their pets on board if they are inside a bag of some sort. The general idea, we assume, was to reduce pets and ensure that no big dogs would board the subway, since they generally cannot fit inside any bag of any sort. However, knowing people, and especially New Yorkers, this silly little rule was not going to stop anyone from traveling with their dogs, which led people to get a little creative with the bags they managed to fit their delightful doggos in.
Thank goodness for IKEA, because without their giant blue bag, we're not sure we would have gotten this howlarious trend.
Ever since this rule, the number of pets on the subway has not reduced, but the level of ridiculousness has definitely risen. Instead of dogs walking on leashes alongside their owners, you now get to see them strolling along the subway, wearing some brand of a bag, or being happily carried by their pawrents inside a backpack. Most doggos don't seem to mind this odd form of transportation, as long as they are comfortable and by their owners' side.
We, however, have definitely seen a change since this rule came to be, since we now get to witness these delightful doggos being carried around in the most silly ways. Truly, nothing makes us happier than to glance at the person sitting across from us on our way home from work, and then suddenly see a pawdorable pup peeking out of the person's Whole Foods bag, or watch as a hooman struggles to put their Golden Retriever's legs through the holes they made in their giant IKEA bag.
As the internet fills with awwdorable snapshots and videos of dogs riding the subway, we felt the need to share some here to lighten up your days. Enjoy this cute collection of delightful doggos happily living their lives on the NYC subway.
