However, if everyone's being honest with themselves, the bird watching begins far sooner than you'd care to admit. Why? Because birds are rad, that's why!
They can fly, they eat bugs right out of the air, they're colorful, and they sing. Birds are magnificent creatures that dot every landscape on this cold rock, hurling through outer space, and human beings are lucky enough to share the same airspace with these phenomenal feathered beings. Although they may ruin the integrity of your freshly detailed car, birds are fun to watch and more clever than you'd think.
Hummingbirds guzzle from the feeder and zoom off into the horizon. Seagulls may steal your lunch, but their cries will always remind you of perfect beach days. Doves are like beautiful, dumb pigeons, but their coos awaken your soul softly as the sun rises, urging you to enjoy the daylight every Saturday morning as they do. Crows are clever and a little creepy, but their knowing eyes are watchful and kind, encouraging grocery shoppers to leave behind a little snack for their goth neighbors.
Perhaps you're not as birdbrained as I am, but I'm proud to admit that I bought my first pair of bird-watching binoculars just recently. Mind you, I don't know a thing about the beaked beasts, but I love them just the same. Flying and soaring through every landscape on earth, birds captivate people's minds and let them believe they can fly as high as well. And it's this positivity and this happy feeling that birders are chasing. Apart from the vicious cataloging, the wetland slogging, and the heavy binoculars around their necks, birders ultimately just want to be outside, in nature, on a hike, or in the wilderness, enjoying the beautiful living gems that exist beyond the human touch.
So go ahead, embrace your bird brain and have some feathered fun, because birds were here before humans in the form of dinosaurs, and they'll likely outlast us as well, so in the meantime, we might as well enjoy them for more than a mere bite of a chicken sandwich or a bundle of eggs. Birds offer more treasures than just a good scramble, and they represent the high-flying freedom we all deserve.
