“Family” has many meanings, and it's up to all of us to decide which definition we want to use in our daily lives. Would a family member jump at the chance for some extra cash rather than a big, meaningful hug with someone they share DNA with?
How do you reconcile with the fact that, even after all these years, your biological mother couldn't be bothered with who you are and how you've grown? We all have a choice in this world, and the child's choice is to leave her biological mother outside of her inner circle. She might as well be a stranger.
