He started hanging out in the garden whilst we built our extension - skinny, ratty and often wounded in some way. His ears were brittle and transparent and his tail was so thin and rat-like.

We already had three cats and couldn't take another but we looked out for him. One day we came home from work and was sitting at the top of the stairs. We realised he had been sleeping in the hallway.

Another day, he came in through our cat flap and ate our cats food. My mother in law chased him out. But my partner went to the doorway and called out for him - it was raining & lightning and my partner found him huddled under a gas box crying. He's always been very vocal.

We coaxed him inside with Dreamies and he slept at the foot of the bed from the very first night. If you moved though or got too close, he would run away.

One day, he came in covered head to toe in sticky paint. We rushed him to the vets and they had to shave him to get it off. He had a back injury and a wound near his at the time - she said if we didn't want him, they'd take him to a shelter. So we kept him.

It was about 5 months before we saw him play for the first time. Now he gets zoomies and does laps up and down the stairs. If one of us takes a bath, he sits next to the bath and cries until you drench him with water. He lies in my partners arms when he plays games on the laptop.

We called him Henry as a casual "I don't know your name-name" but with the way he hoovers up his food, it stuck. It's been about two years now and I only wish we had found him sooner!

honbontattoo OP Haha you're not wrong! Funnily enough it was my partner who gave him Henry as a nickname. He's South African and apparently it's a name used often as a friendly term for others, like "alright Henry, how you doing?!" He even calls his brother that sometimes (who is not named Henry). But we talked about different names when he became officially ours and the comparison to Henry the Hoover was too strong to ignore

namaste 79 Seriously, bless you! Anytime I feel overwhelmed with all the craziness in the world and in my life, I love being reminded that I share this amazing life not just with precious Henry, but with people such as you and your family. Keep being the light. It's not just Henry who might need it.
