This man shared that he and his wife of 5 years live with his mother. His Mom, as he puts it, “desperately wants a grandchild,” but he and his wife don't really want a kid right now.
For a lot of folks, though, if you tell them you don't want a baby, no matter how strongly you protest, they just can't fathom it. They believe that everyone wants babies, and even if you say you don't, you might want one later. Or you might change your mind. Or maybe just think it over, and then you'll realize that you really do want kids! It's truly maddening, because you cannot convince some people that grandkids are a zero percent possibility. They have to realize that the hard way, unfortunately, and it seems like that's how it went down for this couple.

If the husband didn't stand up for his wife here, he would've regretted it for sure. His mom was out of line! I do hope she apologizes — sometimes you don't realize how out of bounds your comments are until you're called out. It can lead to a more productive relationship. Like, imagine if the mom apologizes and takes the wife out for a nice day of shopping, dining, and going to a show. They could have a lovely time together, talking about anything other than baby fever, and try to move on with their lives. Maybe they could take a crafting class together, or get Mom involved in some hobbies of her own, or they could all meet up with some mutual friends. There is a life beyond grandkids, and I hope that the mom here can realize the error of her ways.
