Already they're off to a bad start. What's the point in starting a relationship knowing it has these kinds of logistic restraints? It's important to see the signs early on if a relationship is worth really pursuing, or if it looks like it will hit an end. I'm surprised they got four years in with his severe cat allergy, and her being such a devoted cat mom. I wonder what they thought would happen down the line at that time, and if they're kicking themselves now for this decision years ago.

It's really sweet she's trying so hard to make the space comfortable for him, but eventually if he has a bad allergy then the cat's dander will be everywhere. There's really no avoiding breathing in air and fur that's obviously moving slowing all through the air.

The family barging in to give their two cents isn't the most helpful, in my opinion. She's obviously not going to give up her cat of 10 years. But they do need to decide how they're going to approach this because it won't just disappear. It reminds me of couples who get together when one really wants a kid and the other doesn't. There's basically no point in even trying at that point! There's only so much compromise that a couple should have to go through, and it should never have to do with your fundamental wants and needs.
