Teens are at an age where they're smart enough to understand the ways of the world, but snarky enough to fearlessly tackle injustice at the source. There's a reason that teens are so rebellious. Whether they're retaliating against the unfairness that surrounds us or an empty stomach, teens will pour their heart and soul into contrarianism for the sake of a good argument. Never underestimate a teenager with a sparkle of rebellion in their eye, because they will unleash a fury fueled by hormones and rage that no jaded adult could combat.
Luckily for this principal, the teen he was pitted against only wanted to make a point about free will, but in an excellent display of malicious compliance, he reminded the leaders of the school that he was not going to be exploited for free, holding them to their end of the deal with a flashy splash of color.
