Employee trains her replacement for 3 months, replacement constantly asks her questions 6 months into the job: 'My old boss has also told me multiple times that he wishes I was still there.'

She needs to ignore her emails and let her sink or swim.

It shouldn't take you months and months to get the basic hang of your job. It takes around a year to fully figure out your role in the company, and it's okay if you're not literally an expert on all of the happenings of the company six months into your position. Heck, it might even take a few years to feel like you've completely gotten a grasp on what you're doing in your job. That's why it's not great to job-hop every year. If you can grow into your role instead of speedrunning it and leaving at the first sign of strife, you're going to learn a lot more about yourself as a professional. Unless you're really good at every job you get right off the bat, you shouldn't leave a job you don't even have a full grasp of to begin with.

You shouldn't feel like you have to be the perfect employee immediately, but if you can't master the basic everyday tasks that go along with your position within a month of getting hired, it just might not be the job for you. It's common for trainers to tell their trainees, "You can ask me anything; there are no stupid questions." While that might be true in the early stages of training, there comes a point when the trainee needs to stop asking questions and start using their noodle to solve problems.

The employee in this story was tasked with training her replacement. She was being moved to her company's sister organization after her company was acquired, so it isn't like she was fired and had to train her replacement.
