To be cliché, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Along the way, as with all things in life, there will be ups and downs, but ultimately the goal remains. If you're looking to get a promotion at work, you're trying to teach your child to read, or you simply want to learn a new skill, there are absolutely going to be hiccups along the way.
That's just life, babygirrrl.
Truthfully, it's the challenges and the L's that make our seemingly small human accomplishments meaningful, rewarding our dedication with a hard-earned kudos and a pat on the back. It's the most colossal projects, with the most pitfalls and the most slipups that lead to a rewarding end; you just gotta keep pushing. Resilience isn't often a characteristic of life that's as celebrated as it should be, but without the grit, the strength, and the mental fortitude to persevere despite adversity, we as a society would never have built so many bridges, cured so many illnesses, or even gone to the moon.
And when you're at your lowest and feeling like you want to give up on your goals, and persevering seems impossible, there's one sure-fire way to pick yourself up by the bootstraps: Celebration. Sure, it might sound stupid coming from me, some random internet writer and purveyor of memes, but I know my way around a few failures, too. Celebrating the miniature victories helps drown out the failures, blinding the banality with a smile or a sigh of relief that momentarily lifts your spirits.
It's the microcelebrations that help put the journey in perspective. You've come this far!
Okay, maybe you stumbled a bit or took an unexpected hit, but look at all you've managed to achieve despite it? Little victories are all around us, tempting us into a good mood and banishing all feelings of inadequacy and hopelessness. Learn to recognize these daily triumphs and take the dang W! Because, despite your mood now, this little bump of good vibes could be enough to give you the strength to make it to the finish line and accomplish all you've dreamed of.
