Running away from home as connotations of being a rebellious or angsty teenager. It's someone having an episode of attention seeking or frustration with their life, and it's a statement about wanting change. But when a cat does it, it hits differently. When a cat runs away, it probably means that the cat accidently got outside, and was too flustered to figure out how to get home.
