Valentine's day is soon. Okay, it's in a few weeks, but still! Despite the kitschy, lovey-dovey, syrupy sweet, dripping with petulant "aww's" aspect of Valentine's Day, it can actually be enjoyable. Whether you're in a relationship or not, celebrating love is something important to do, and once a year isn't nearly enough. These days everyone's vernacular is fraught with therapy speak, and attachment styles are no different. Being anxiously attached means the person has a deep fear of abandonment and strong desire for closeness, but can feel fragile easily, and trigger an anxious feeling. Overthinking and worrying are the sole symptoms of this attachment style. To be fair, doesn't everyone want closeness, fear abandonment, and feel a little worried about the state of things sometimes?
There's often a constant need for reassurance, and it could look like "needy" from the outside, but that's not it at all! Isn't being needy with your partner a purrfectly healthy phase of the relationship? Honeymoon period?
And despite attachment styles, Valentine's Day is the holiday celebrating love. It's often marketed in a way that hypes up romantic love, but you can easily go off with your girlfriends, friends, or family to celebrate in red, pink, and hearts. If you are someone in a relationship hoping to have a special day with your loved one, usually chocolates, roses, and a symbolic dinner are the key ingredients to a good night (and actually liking the person, of course). Valentine's Day is the holiday of gestures to show how you really feel, to reveal a truth about love that ordinarily can be heavy to admit. It's a time to embrace the gawky, kitschy, or embarrassing parts of being "that one couple."
And as we all know, cats do it best. Cats are the masters of love, of attachment, of balancing neediness with avoidance, of celebrations, and of pulling it off under a guise of cool. There's really no better animal to showcase an unhealthy bond in such an adorable and wholesome way. For human couples who wanna pull it off the way cats do, here are some cutesy memes to do it with!
