  • My sweet coworker who had only 4 years left to retire was laid off and I don't know what to do

    I live in a country where you need a certain age to retire (60), my coworker who is 56 and an actual ray of sunshine, was laid off yesterday while none of the team was there to back her up (we are seasonal workers), she called me in tears, they said her spot was no longer needed and just like that, after more than 20 years working there, she was fired.
  • The worst part is the piece of shit that did this was a woman who was our coworker, was taught everything she knows by her, but managed to be our boss by sleeping with the general manager (they are both married btw).
  • The thing is I have proof of their affair, texts, pictures and even some audios. I've been thinking about sending the proof to human resources and even to their significant others, but I'm going to wait until I have a talk with my coworker, but at this point I'm willing to get myself fired to make them pay.

  • mingebinj 4 years left.. that's shocking. You should defo anonymously inact some revenge. Id be tempted to create an anonymous social media and post whatever evidence you have on the business Facebook page if they have one. I'd only do that if none of that evidence could point the finger at you or anybody you dont want to hurt

That's why I want to talk it out with my coworker first. If she thinks she will get harmed in anyway I will pull a full stop to it, otherwise, I don't care anymore

  • throwawaydeeez Sure. And they can retaliate to anyone that shows up in those texts but never reported it. Or a number of other things. It's not as clean as just OP getting the target. It may still be worth it though.
  • FitzroyFang Original Poster's Reply Exactly, unfortunately there are two other people involved that can be harmed if I don't do this carefully. So I will need to talk to them and see if we're all in the same boat. This company became really shitty since it was bought by USA investors (no one is surprised there) so a lot of people are really tired of the treatment, but risking their job is something that not all of them can do

  • FitzroyFang Original Poster's Reply Thankfully, where we live, severance is mandatory as long as you aren't fired for a misconduct which is pretty hard to prove and rarely happens, so she is covered on that front. Still, what hurts is that she needs those 4 working years to retire and is gonna be a bitch to find an other job at her age

  • FitzroyFang Original Poster's Reply Unfortunately you are right, that already happened with another coworker that was fired. Later on we found out they created fake timesheets and fake complains in order to fire her. So hoping that HR will do something for us is a no-no

  • FitzroyFang Original Poster's Reply Thankfully I don't live in USA, but the factory I work was recently bought by an American company, so it makes sense that the work environment has gone to shit

  • RulerOfNyaNyaLand I think you should share what you have with her and advise her to get an employment lawyer. She may have a case for wrongful termination. It's worth it for her to get a consultation and her lawyer might get her a big settlement that will help her make it to retirement age without falling into debt.
