And we cannot help ourselves, can we? We know that our cats need their space, that they like choosing when to come to us and when to be alone, and that they really don't want us nagging them, but my goodness, we can't stop. And we don't want to stop. And we are ready to face the consequences of not stopping, no matter what they are. Our cats are simply irresistible, and it is entirely not our fault that the universe made them this way. And if petting them means getting this face aimed at us sometimes and a scratch here and there, then it is so, so worth it.

Anybody who actually believes that last part has never lived with a cat who cared about them ever. Cats do care. And they make sure to show us the fact that they care in a whole bunch of little ways. It is up to us to pay attention. Just because your cat doesn't run up to you and lick your face every two seconds doesn't mean that they don't care about you. And if they really do have a problem with you, then really, you should look inward. Cats not liking someone is something that we, as cat owners, take very seriously.
