Friend jokingly offers to keep the fluffy feline she's cat-sitting, the owner takes her seriously and gives his cat to her: 'And now I own this cat'

Whenever we tell our friends that we love their cat and would want to steal it from them, we don't actually expect to get an "okay" in return.

Of course, when you are cat-sitting, you bond with your friend's cats much more than when you are simply visiting them. You're hanging out with the cat, you cuddle with the cat, you learn about the cat's shenanigans. The whole thing. And the longer the cat-sitting job, the more you connect with them, and the more that they connect with you. We have joked about wanting to take the cats that we're cat-sitting for oursleves so, so many times. Because we just end up falling for them. But honestly, we don't know what we would have done in a situation like the one we'll be talking about today.

More often than not, we just say it. "We want this cat," we say it all the time. We say it about nearly every kitty that we see. But to want a cat versus to actually be able to take on an animal in the moment are two entirely different things. We suppose that we should simply be thankful that the sitter who fell in love with the cat in today's story was actually able to adopt the cat when the situation presented itself.

We say this about literally every single cat that we ever get the pleasure of seeing. We say it jokingly, just like you did. And we never expect to hear a reply like that. We honestly don't know what we would have done if this had happened to us. Because the second it happens, you know that the cat is not going to be in that home for long, and potentially, the cat might not be happy in that home now. We're glad that it was the former rather than the latter in this case, but still. We can just say that we are happy things worked out the way that they did and that you were able to take this little guy and really give him the home he deserves.

And this is good too. This really sounds like it might have been the best situation for the cat and essentially for everyone else that is involved too. The fact that he is going to be able to see his past humans still, that maybe that will help him deal with the change and with all of his feelings about it, is a really good thing. We hope that they get to see one another often.
