First of all, this is one of the most insane things that we have heard in a long time. Second of all, the best solution, in our opinions, is to get in and get out as fast as possible. You and the cat need to be out of there. Come in when you can, find someone to stay with and can take your kitty for a while, pack your cat's things, and get your cat out of there. The rest can be handled later. And we're not telling you to get your cat out of there lightheartedly. We know how difficult that is for a cat. But there is more risk to staying there than there is to being with a cat sitter until you can officially figure this out.

We don't know about the legalities of the situation, but if you can reach a lawyer somehow, we would try to talk to them. What matters more than that, more than money, more than anything else, is making sure that you and your cat are safe. And it sounds like you're on that. Keep us updated.
