Coffee shop employee denounces colleague for forgetting online order, gets offended when she refuses to take the blame: 'I didn't think it was fair'

Nobody wants to be the person who messed up at work, but lying about it is usually worse than owning up to the mistake.

There is not an employee on this earth who hasn't done something wrong now and then, but the real measure of their value as a worker is not always the mistake itself, but rather how they choose to handle it. Assuming they are in a profession that isn't life or death and that they are not habitually incompetent, they are more likely to gain the respect of those they work with by owning up instead of trying to hide it.

Despite this, it is the first instinct of many to point the finger and deny all wrongdoing when they make some type of blunder. Whether they fear repercussions or they simply refuse to accept reality, the last thing they are willing to do is own their mistake. Most of the time, it is their coworkers who bear the brunt of this. Enemies can be made when somebody faces a consequence for something they didn't do, which is far from helpful when the best working environment is one where everybody operates as a team. All it takes is one weak link.

In this story, a young woman who worked at a cafe was annoyed when her coworker messed something up, and then tried to tell the manager that it was her fault. They had worked a busy shift, where she was in charge of the front counter, and he was working on online orders.
At the end of the day, the manager realized that one big order was missing, and her colleague immediately blamed her for the blunder. Their supervisor suggested that she stay late to rectify the mistake, but she refused and told the truth about who was liable. Her colleague held this against her, and she wondered if she was in the wrong.
