'Whatever happened to “No shoes, no service?”': Moviegoer calls out barefoot guy, staff members refuse to intervene

Nothing could've prepared this person for their unpleasant movie theater experience, and oddly enough, the staff didn't seem to care at all. 

I know I'm not alone in lamenting the slow descent of the moviegoing experience. It's become a 2 or 3-hour session of prolonged annoyance. By that I mean: everyone and their mother is on their phones the entire runtime of the film (and previews too, obviously). They're talking to each other, making quips, throwing handfuls of food. And by this point, it's become sadly normalized. 

The movie chain here doubles as a restaurant — you can order food throughout the movie, and it's awesome. You place any food orders via paper order slips. This place is also notorious for their phone policy. They're extremely strict about it! You will get kicked out by a manager if you use your phone at all during the film. Same thing if you're loud or disruptive towards the other guests — you get one strike, then you're out. No second chances. But now, not so much! The juxtaposition of this person's post with the theater chain's latest news is interesting, to say the least. 

Now, instead of writing down your food requests on a paper slip and putting it up so that your waiter can silently take your order, you'll now need to order on your phone! It's almost comical to imagine the meetings that must've gone down in order to make that choice. They're taking one of the facets that makes their theater chain so unique — and so beloved by film enthusiasts! — and doing away with it altogether. 

When Twitter heard that news, it erupted with scorn. Someone actually made the good observation that they like putting their phone away during the movie: they can't take it out to check texts or scroll TikTok, since they'll get booted out. 

Well. At least when that new rule takes effect, it'll be very, very funny to watch the fallout. I'll report back. 

This person below shared a mildly infuriating experience that they actually captured in photos. It technically breaks the "no phones" rule! But they had a good reason for doing so — a dude right next to them decided to take his shoes off, letting his piggy toes air out for the whole world to see. 

Babies are allowed to take their shoes off at any time because it's adorable. Grown men? No! Do not! None of us ever want to witness y'all's hairy feet! There is simply no reason for this person to go barefoot, making it everyone else's problem as they try to choke down their food nearby. 

As you could imagine, people had strong reactions to this. It's just another crack in the fracturing of the social structure surrounding movie theater etiquette. Some commenters suggested dumping a drink on the guy's feet, while others offered the more level-headed solution of just asking to be moved. However, in a theater with those pre-reserved seats, you can't just move around however you please. You're stuck next to the foot guy, and that's just going to be the main takeaway from this movie experience.
