Company fires employee for not immediately reporting overpayment on a paycheck despite the fact they were on a cruise: 'He said its not about the money but about integrity'

Do you check your direct deposit every single time, as a salaried worker?

After a while, don't you just expect to see the same number each time? Most folks who have a regular paycheck might forget to check the number every now and again. If their company has a history of on-time, correct payments, then you should have nothing to worry about. If direct deposit is set up, you probably just go about your life as if nothing has changed. This is pretty normal human behavior, and not something we should apologize for.

But sometimes our behavior comes under scrutiny when we least expect it. We find ourselves having to defend our actions in ways that we didn't anticipate. This can happen at work, when you suddenly come under fire for stuff that might feel out of your control, or daily actions that you take for granted. You have to be on guard for this kind of behavior, or else you might end up in a situation that you can't get yourself out of. You never know when forces are conspiring against you in the workplace. You have to be ready to answer for yourself at all times. But good employers know that their employees are human, and that their lives are not completely consumed by work. They know that you lead a life outside of the office, and that you're not always thinking about your job. That makes you a better, more well-rounded employee. But not all jobs understand this.
