The team lead learned that he was not allowed to give anyone a perfect score of 5 in any category, regardless of who they were. It did not matter if they were going above and beyond. It did not matter if they were exceeding all expectations and then some. The company refused to allow anyone to get a 5 presumably so that they could use these reports as ways to defend their choices when they denied raises and promotions to team members down the road.
Thankfully, this author knew immediately that this was not the type of company he wanted to work for anymore. Now that he had a greater understanding of how the sausage is made, so to speak, he refused to enable this mentality and remain a part of the company. Honestly, we cannot help but applaud him for sticking to his moral backbone.
