As much as we like to make fun of our fluffy furriends for only possessing one brain cell (and even that is a rare occurrence), sometimes we are reminded just how smart our pets can be.
The thing is, they never reveal their true intelligence by following orders. No, they will only show how smart they are if it gets them any closer to what they want. It could be a treat, an extra 30 minutes to play outside, or a cuddle session when you really should already be heading to work; all that matters to them is to get their heart's desire without getting in trouble.
On these occasions, a pet can get extra sneaky and even form a plan to get what they want.
Our cats, for example, always try to get their hands on an extra treat. Every few weeks, we have to move their treat stash to a different and secret location, because they keep figuring out how to open the drawer or cabinet we keep them in. After the third time that we got home to find all the treats half-opened and spread across the house, we realised we can never let them figure out where we keep them all. We have to keep these little fiesty felines on their toes, because they have no problem using all their combined brain cells and energy into cracking the daily puzzle of how to get to the treats.
The pets in the story below had a mission to get their owner to wake up earlier than usual so they could get their breakfast expedited. They devised a whole plan and actually worked together to convince their owner that her alarm clock went off an hour early, and got her to wake up without realising what they did. Who knew a Labrador and two kittens could be so smart?
By the time the owner figured out she had been tricked, her dog and two cats were already enjoying their early breakfast. Now, she is worried that these little tricksters will learn from this success and continue to use their newfound intelligence to get what they want. Unfortunately for her, there's not much she can do to stop them…
