    Unneutered cat with collar is rescued by new family, no one comes to claim him, so his new family gives him the love and kindness he's always deserved: 'Cannot believe someone isn't missing him'

    Neutering your cat is not only important, it's a sign that there is someone out there actually taking care of them.

    If you come across an unneutered cat outside, then the first thing you assume is that the cat doesn't have an owner anywehre waiting for him. That is a sign that said kitty is safe for adoption. Not neutering your cat, as far as we can see it, is a way of neglecting them. Of course, finding a cat with a collar is another sign in and of itself. There couldn't be a clearer sign that the cat belongs to someone than that. But what happens if you find a cat with both - a collar and unneutered? What do you do then?

    That is the situation that this family had found themselves in. One day, out of nowhere, a cat with a collar showed up in front of their house. They took the cat in, assuming that the cat belonged to someone, and then the search started. They attempted to reunite the cat with his family in every way that they could have, but no one came forward. No one was asking around for a kitty with a look as distinct as his. And the kitty was unneutered. A sign. Or maybe a few signs that the kitty had chosen a new home.

      This guy showed up a few weeks before Christmas. Since he had a collar, naturally we figured he was an escaped pet. After weeks of posting on facebook lost/found pet pages, talking with neighbors, contacting 2 local animal shelters, no one claimed him.

      He wasn't neutered, and with 4 cats of our own, we couldn't bring him inside (last time I brought an intact stray to the basement during a cold snap, my male cat went crazy). I decided to contact the humane society to get him fixed, shots, dewormed, etc... because the 2 local animal shelters are completely full and couldn't take him.

      We brought him home, and of course, fell in love with him. He LOVES belly rubs, which is odd for a kitty. Currently a week into the introduction process with our other cats. Soooo meet Sebastian!

      I'm assuming he was someone's family pet, does great with kids, LOVES people, but they didn't get him fixed and he began to do what un neutered male cats do, and someone dumped him. We have a separate vet visit to get the pellet, or bullet, out of his left ear. I hate how cruel people can be.

    • This is such a unique looking cat. It would be impossible to confuse him with another one. If his family had truly been looking for him, we believe that they would have found him. They would have immediately recognized him from a picture, or even from a description of a local shelter. And if anyone had seen a picture of this cat posted by his family, you would have recognized him instantly as well. The fact that he was unneutered is a red flag in and of itself. All that to say that we think you can safely adopt this guy, and we hope that his family, neglectful as they seem to have been, will not show up to cause you any trouble with him in the future.

      Areil26 I wonder if Sebastian, being an unneutered male, wandered away from his home, and his old family was like, "Welp, he's gone. Nothing we can do." I bet he has some good stories about his travels.

      shelbynicole1624 OP Definitely a possibility! I have kept the posts up on the lost pet sites. Who knows how far he could have traveled if so. I took in a senior girl, Gingie, like 10 years back. She came in, made herself at home and was the sweetest girl. I felt the need to repost her on facebook again almoat 2 years later and a woman messaged me with pictures saying she thinks I have her cat. I ended up reuniting her with her family and everyone was SO suprised and obviously beyond happy.

    • The fact that this kitty connected with the family - the kids and the other animals - so easily is yet another sign that he was always meant to be with you. Not all cats get along with new people so well, not even house cats who are used to humans and other animals. Strangers can always be scary to cats, but it seems that all of you were not really strangers to him, that you were all truly meant to be a family.
